No matter the size and the shape of your backyard, the fact that you have one is already a blessing. Having a backyard offers you the opportunity to create a perfect little outdoor place for relaxation and enjoyment. That being said, in order for your yard to become this personal oasis you first need to show it some love and care.
If your backyard is a space you would much rather run away from – than run to – it is time you roll up your sleeves and get down to some beautifying. Since spending time in nature has such a positive effect on our overall well-being, turning your backyard into your very own peaceful oasis can only benefit you in the long run.
Clear out your yard
Clearing out your yard of all the mess should be your top priority. In order to be able to achieve anything you want, it would be best to start off with a clean space. That is why you need to make sure that you remove all the junk from your backyard – if you have any, trim your trees and hedge, get rid of any dried leaves and branches and give the entire base if your backyard a good raking. This will allow you to create an even and clean base you can later easily build upon. Any damaged constructions, worn-out pavers, and similar items will also need to go.

Do some basic landscaping
Now that you have emptied out your yard, you should start focusing on the landscape. Here is the perfect time to assess the space you are dealing with and see how you can use it to best suit your needs. For instance, you can consider dividing your backyard into different areas and use landscaping to achieve such a look. You can also decide to implement different layers of different heights in your backyard and create a beautiful sloping look. Basically, landscaping will allow you to create the perfect base for the rest of your backyard design so take some time to determine what look you would want to create before you actually get down to planting and sprucing your backyard up.
Decide on the groundcovers
Furthermore, you will also need to consider what type of groundcover you want to have in your backyard. Here, we are not just talking about the type of plant you end up going with but also the materials you want to use for your pathways. If you decide on beautiful marble pavers you will instantly elevate the look of your backyard and make it appear more stylish. On a similar note, when choosing the plants you want to cover your ground with, you should be thinking about both practicality and maintenance, not just the look. So, for instance, aside from the traditional grass, you can choose between Tufted Creeping Phlox, Creeping Thyme, Bearberry, and Sweet Woodruff, to name just a few. These not only look great but some of them actually blossom, which is great news for all the insects as well.

Zone it out
Next, as mentioned before, you should create different zones in your backyard. For instance, consider creating an outdoor kitchen – these are usually placed near the house – or at least a grilling area if you don’t have enough room. Aside from this attractive feature, make sure you designate an outdoor seating area where you can spend some quality time enjoying the nature around you. To zhuzh it up a bit consider adding a fire pit as well, as this backyard feature not only looks amazing but also serves a useful purpose. You can also decide to create a peaceful meditation area if you are practicing it, or designate a space in your yard for yoga. A water feature – no matter how big or small – is also a welcome sight. Anything from an artificial pond over a fountain all the way to a birdbath will do, so take your pick.
Enjoy
Finally, once you have spruced up your yard, the only thing left to do is enjoy it. Gather your family or call your friends over for a barbecue, spend some quality time roasting marshmallows over your fire pit and enjoy the beautiful outdoor scenery you have managed to create.
The calming beauty of the outdoors has made me appreciate nature even more. People who work at plano landscaping have told me that I should appreciate nature more often, and that's what I am trying to do these days.
